The purple people….the only colour they came in.
Mike bought us Bikes, simple ones with no gears to rust, basically an adult BMX, not that I will be doing any fancy tricks.
Since I put him on a low GL Diet and cut out the foods we found he is intolerant to, his energy has increased phenomenally. He now exhausts me just looking at him, whereas before if he was not working or eating he was sleeping.
He felt the necessity of a fast way of expending energy and getting about to see the area. I got roped in too, mainly because I know it is good to get exercise and keep him company.
Sunday we took off to cycle to Europa Point, to look over where we sail, it is always interesting to see these features from the land side as well.
We got to the point and enjoyed the view, Mike then suggested we go and see the “Pillars or Hercules”, forgetting of course to tell me they were on the top of the Rock.

The View from the top
Mike rode up, but I must admit, I had to walk a lot of the way, it is after all a long time since I cycled and am still a bit wobbly and need to get fitter. The view was worth it, even with the fog, which helped us keep our cool on the way up.
We went to the restaurant at the St Michael’s caves, to buy some much-needed water. We will see them another time when my nephew and niece visit, on the way, right under the sign saying “do not feed the apes”, guess what, a couple feeding them.
I could not keep quiet, so I asked them if they could read or not and then explained that because of them the ape would now look to humans for food and attack them and will eventually have to be destroyed, just them the ape jumped up at the woman who had stopped feeding it as I spoke and attacked her, not too violently fortunately for her, but enough to get the point home. People are such idiots, they want a nice picture but do not think about what happens to the animal. They think the signs are there to spoil their fun, not to protect the poor apes from the idiot humans.

Barbary Ape with baby
What was worse was when we got to the restaurant, one of the “licensed” tour guides had tamed one of the apes to take food from his hand. There is obviously no control of tour guides. It is unfortunately the poor ape that will be destroyed when he accidently bites a tourist, where in fact it should be the tour guide, who should know better, who should be destroyed or at the very least lose his licence. He should lose it now before the harm is done.
Coming from Africa and having been bitten by “tame” monkeys and baboons that people kept as pets I am more aware of the dangers. Few people know that in monkey language a exposing teeth in a grin is a sign of aggression. They also sense fear and react upon it.

The view of our marina from the top, just across the border.
Coming down was a lot easier, but I was grateful for the new breaks on the bike or it would have been a lot faster than it was, and very painful.
We popped in at the supermarket, to buy some lunch, chicken and bananas, we had salad when we got back. We are very health conscious as I had all my arthritis, both osteo and rheumatoid, low blood sugar, bad skin, and lost all my fat, and I was FAT….40 kg over, and could not lose it, just by changing what I was eating. We also keep Mikes Melanoma slowed down with diet. so no junk for us, and nothing unless we have washed it first, hence the bananas as they can be easily peeled.
It was a great outing, a lot longer than planed, but that is what having fun is all about.
